What Games Room does
From "who is in?" to a full table.
- The host asks once. Then the question sinks under other messages.
- "Maybe" is not a plan. Nobody can count the chairs.
- Somebody must chase. Nobody wants that job.
- The host sets the night in three taps. The date and the games go to the whole room.
- Each friend claims a seat. A name on a chair is a yes you can count.
- The app sends the reminders. One week before, three days before, on the morning.
Who it is for
One table. Three jobs it takes off you.
-
The host
"Plans the night. Gets out of the way."
You pick a date and the games. The app sends the invites and the reminders. You do not chase anyone for a reply.
-
The regular
"Your seat's claimed. Just walk in."
One tap saves your seat. Your name is on a chair before you arrive. Everyone can see who is coming.
-
The quiet one
"Knows the story before the door."
The scores and the awards are in the app before the night. You arrive with something to talk about.
Why a game
Come for the games. Stay for the conversation.
The app gets everyone to the table. The game does the rest.
A game gives your hands a task. Each round makes a pause and something to talk about. Nobody must find the next topic alone.
The Question Box
Serious, then stupid, then serious again.
Question from the box
What is one job everyone thinks is respectable that you think is mostly a scam?
Every 20 minutes, the app gives one person a question to read out. The next question goes to the next person.
The deck mixes serious questions with stupid ones on purpose. So the talk goes deep, then silly, then deep again. You learn more about the people at the table each night.
The games set the volume. Poker runs quiet. Monopoly Deal runs loud. The questions set the topic. The host can turn the box off, edit the questions or add the room's own.
How a night works
Five steps. Tap one to see it.
Step 1 Join a room A friend gives you a code. You type it once.
-
The host makes a code. Each code has six characters.
-
The host sends one code to one friend.
-
The friend types the code and joins. After that, the code does not work.
Members can make codes too. The host sets how many each member can hold.
Step 2 The night is set The host picks a date and the games. The room gets the news.
-
The host picks a date, a time and the games.
-
The new night shows in the room for each member at the same time.
-
Reminders come one week before, three to four days before, and on the morning of the night.
Reminders are off until you turn them on for a room. If you tap Can't make it, the reminders stop.
Step 3 Claim a seat One tap puts your name on a chair.
-
Tap Claim seat. That is all.
-
Your name goes on a chair. Everyone can see who is coming.
-
The room can hold a seat deposit. Tap I'm here at the night and you get it back.
Plans change. Release your seat and it opens for another person.
Step 4 Play and score You play with real chips. The app counts them at the end.
-
Take points from your balance in the app.
-
The host gives you real chips for those points.
-
You play. The phones stay face down.
-
At the end, scan your stack. The ledger records what you won or lost.
Some games have one winner, like Monopoly Deal. In those games, the host taps the winner of each round.
Step 5 The season Scores carry from night to night. Then the awards go out.
-
Scores carry from night to night.
-
The host ends the season. The app gives the awards.
-
Each balance goes back to the start. A new season begins.
What a season looks like
The night compounds.
-
Week 1
Three people claim a seat. The first night happens.
-
Week 4
Five seats are full. Somebody brings chips.
-
Week 8
The season ends. The awards go out, and the table laughs.
-
Week 12
A friend of a friend sits down. Nobody treats them as new.
